Order: Amblypygi
This little guy was so cool, I found him on the ground so decided to pic him up for a closer look. He's a tailless whip scorpion we spotted in the Amazon jungle whilst spotlighting at night, about 3 hours downstream of the town Coca in Ecuador.

wow scary lookin thing

So it's a scorpion? It looks more like a spider. And what possessed you to want to pick that thing up at all, let alone in the Amazon where things can be all kinds of poisonous.

It is not a scorpion, nor is it a spider. There are 11 orders in the Class Arachnida, Amblypygi is simply one of these such orders. There are many other strange arachnids, for instances Ricinulei [link]
the hooded tickspiders, not a tick and not a spider. Hope that helps

that thing is huge! i'm impressed you were brave enough to pick it up. I'd most likely run the other direction haha

Heh yeah what he said, he should know he's a acarologist! Yeah and as for picking it up I don't think they can physically bite you, at least this guy didn't so I'm gonna say sure they're safe to touch! Thanks for the interest and thanks sigma1ao for the info.
